Pennies For Peace
January 21, 2010
Pennies for Peace was founded by Greg Mortenson; co-author of the #1 NY Times Bestseller, Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace...One School At A Time. The Pennies for Peace service-learning program began at Westside Elementary School in River Fall, WI in 1994, when students, took the initiative and raised 62,340 pennies for Greg, to help him build his first school in Pakistan. “Children had taken the first step toward building the school,” Mortenson says. “And they did it with something that is basically worthless in our society – pennies. But overseas, pennies can move mountains.” Throughout the months of February and March, Somerville Public Library (in association with NJ State Library) will be a collection site for the national Pennies for Peace campaign. SPL is looking for your help to make a difference in the lives of children across the world. For More Information Visit: www.PenniesforPeace.org
